Book Review of “Hurricane Force (Miss Fortune Mystery #7)” by Jana Deleon

Blurb

From New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon, the seventh book in the Miss Fortune series.

A force to be reckoned with…

During missions as a CIA assassin, Fortune Redding saw and overcame most every obstacle, but Sinful, Louisiana, keeps producing new challenges for her. When a hurricane blows through, it brings a shower of counterfeit money raining down on the tiny bayou town.

When the money is linked back to Ahmad, the arms dealer who issued the kill order on Fortune, everyone is worried that her nemesis is far too close for comfort. When Ahmad’s men turn up in Sinful, the situation becomes life-and-death for Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie, and Deputy Carter LeBlanc learns Fortune’s true identity.

As Swamp Team 3 rushes to locate the counterfeiter, Fortune hopes to take down Ahmad and free herself from her fake life. But will her relationship with Carter make it now that he knows the truth?

Genre: Cozy Mystery / Thriller
My Review

Jana Deleon has never failed to impress me. But this time she has gone over and beyond impressing and went to outright fabulous. I have never fell in love with any of the other books more than this one. This is by far the best in the Fortune Redding series. This book caps it all in one go and takes the best to give.

Fortune Redding’s shield is almost blown off when it is rumoured that Ahmed might be looking at Sinful with new eyes. This definitely puts up Fortune, Ida bella and Gertie on high alert, but it also involves telling Carter the truth. The way all these are twisted and turned and brought out in this novel is a real amazing reading experience. You feel for Fortune and empathize with her at every step of the book. Every scene is emotionally connecting and every page ties you closer and closer to Fortune. By the end of the book, you will not be able to distinguish your own feeling from that of Fortune.

The book ended on a slightly sad note, but somehow, I do not see that as the end of that chapter. I have all the faith in Fortune, Ida Bella and Gertie to turn this situation around. But more than that, I trust Jana to bring out another miracle in her next book. There are no words how much I am waiting for her next one to come. Cozy Mystery has never become so addictive before.

Book Review of ” Tour de Trace” by Sharon L. Dean

Blurb

The younger cyclists who signed up for camping and biking along Mississippi’s Natchez Trace may think of Susan Warner as old. But she is no Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher. Retired from teaching, she sports a lavender streak in her silver hair and, though she has the slowest mph, she can cover the distance. But when she steps out of her tent the first morning, only ten of her fellow cyclists appear. The eleventh has left a note saying that she will return later.
Later never happens. Instead, the riders discover the cyclist’s body stretched crucifixion style on an ancient Indian Mound.
With each turn of her bicycle wheel, Susan searches for the killer. Is it an ex-husband? The owner of a decrepit bed and breakfast? A snake handler? Or is it one of the cyclists? Her ride along the Natchez Trace pits New Englander Susan against an unfamiliar landscape and a murderer.

Genre: Cozy Mystery
My Review

Tour d trace is a cozy mystery series book. The theme is interesting. the characters are defined. The relationship between mother and daughter was beautifully described. You could easily relate to the experience between them.

But it feels like the narration slacks somewhere in between. The story is properly laid out but it drags a lot toward the middle. There are a lot of points where the story could have been tighten up. Many times I could easily skip a few pages and still understand where the story was going. Many unnecessary explanation and examples with given which could have been avoided.

The mystery in itself was nice to read and ended with a nice closure, however if it was shorter, it would have been a better reading experience. Overall theme is good and is a perfect read for fast readers who can skip read through the story. 3.5 stars for the book

Book Review of “Aries Appointment (Celestial Mystery Book 1)” by Kathy T. Kale

Blurb

Four years after her baby is kidnapped from a Miami oceanfront estate, a grieving mother takes desperate action. Enter Morgan Sterling, a fourth generation astrologer who helps lost clients find their way. Teaming up with Daniel Kane, a blundering police detective, the pair track a cold twisted trail where nothing is as it seems, and facts are muddied by rumors and lies. Crisscrossing South Florida, the investigators stir up secrets like a stick stirs snakes. Along the way, the duo reopen old wounds that land them in the pit of their own darkness. The Aries Appointment is about a search for meaning and truth on many levels. It is the first novel in the Celestial Mystery series.

Genre: Cozy Mystery
My Review
The entire book has been great reading experience. Even though there are a lot of cases in between of Morgan which is not related to the case or incidents with neighbors which are also not related, they still give a nice background to the character and the story. You cannot help like the lead character and also gain a slightest insight into astrology.
There were slight instances where certain story lines were kept open and left to explore. But then considering it is part 1 of Cosmic Mystery series, I am hoping for something more to come up soon. I am in love with Morgan and absolutely looking forward to more of her adventures with Daniel.
The story does not lack anything at all. It is perfection in its definition. A wonderful read through and through, it is a must read for any mystery lover and / or astrological fiction lover.

Book Review of “Soldiers of Fortune (Miss Fortune Mystery #6)” by Jana Deleon

Blurb

When Celia Arceneaux was elected mayor of Sinful, Louisiana, Fortune Redding expected trouble. The woman has an unmatched talent for making the worst of any situation, especially if it means getting revenge on her sworn enemies Ida Belle and Gertie.

At the Fourth of July celebration, an explosion rocks Sinful and it’s not from fireworks. Most people assume it was a moonshine still, but when evidence points to a meth lab deep in the bayous of Sinful, Fortune realizes how dire the situation is for the tiny town. With Carter on medical leave and no one left at the sheriff’s department who can handle the investigation, Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie decide to take matters into their own hands.

This is (another) mission for Swamp Team 3.

Genre: Cozy Mystery

My Review

This time Jana DeLeon came back and came back strong. After the two previous books having slightly slacked in story line, this one is brilliantly amusing and adventurous to cope up with the series. Celia has gone far too much ahead with her Mayorship and the new Sheriff is also up to no good. But when a meth lab threatens to open up in Sinful, the Swamp Snipers take it upon themselves to clean the city. Gertie, Ida Belle and Fortune are truly hilarious all through the story. Not even once does it go slow at all.

Right from start to end, it is fun filled and entertaining. It takes mark on all the parameters to be measured. The story line is beautiful, the characters are wonderful, the story is hilarious and the mystery is captivating. A beautiful cozy mystery
